You really shouldn't live stream illegal activities |

Distracted driving is a huge problem on our roads and highways in Ontario. The mis use of child and infant car seats is also a problem in Ontario. Last month we saw a very sad example of the two problems combined.
The Durham Region Police were notified by a member of the public about a video that had been posted on social media. It showed a woman driving on several occasions on the highway. That wasn’t' unusual. People like to post things every day. What was problematic was that she was driving on highways at high rates of speed with her three-year-old toddler in her lap. The child was holding the wheel. The woman used her cellphone to record the occasions, and neither was wearing a seatbelt at any point.
Sometimes we see things that are really and truly hard to believe. This is one of them. It’s terrible to think anyone would risk so many lives once, but to do it repeatedly and to record it and distribute the recordings is really difficult to understand.
The 33 year old woman faces charges of careless driving, and parent not providing necessities of life. Children’s Aid is also involved in the investigations.
To review the law, it is illegal to be in a moving car without a seatbelt on. Children must be in the correct child /infant car seat which is correctly fixed in the car. It’s also illegal not to be in car and control of your car, to be using a cellphone while driving, and certainly isn’t very smart to post videos on social media of you breaking the law.
The province has a good website covering how to install your car seats correctly.
