MyndMove technolgy hopes to help paralysis victims regain motion

MyndMove is a new non-invasive therapy combing patient participation and therapist guidance. It uses a functional electrical stimulation device to restore voluntary arm and hand function for those suffering from upper limb paralysis. According to the website there are protocols that can elicit over 30 different reaching/grasping movements stimulating up to 8 muscle groups. It is intuitive and can be personalized. The technology can help those with severely paralyzed limbs and can stimulate both hands.

We are fortunate to have a local therapy provider Pathways Therapy for the technology here in the Region, and in an interview with one of their therapists it is hoped that the use of the machine can ‘jog the brain about that movement and hopefully restore it in…muscle memory”. It is also useful for regaining strength and range of motion in patients. The clinical studies have been very hopeful.

It is very interesting to watch how quickly technology is evolving in the field of rehab and to watch injured people regain function that not too long ago would have been long lost.
