Road safety remains a top priority for law enforcement agencies and community stakeholders. With the 2025 Annual Enforcement Schedule in place, traffic enforcement strategies are set to be more targeted, data-driven, and effective. The Annual Enforcement Schedule serves as a comprehensive roadmap for prioritizing enforcement initiatives throughout the year, ensuring a focused approach to addressing key traffic concerns.
A Comprehensive Approach to Road Safety
The Annual Enforcement Schedule provides an overview of enforcement priorities for each month. This ensures that officers across divisions align their efforts with provincial and national traffic safety campaigns. Among the primary concerns are the Fatal Four offences—impaired driving, aggressive driving, distracted driving, and seatbelt violations. Addressing these critical issues helps reduce traffic collisions and fatalities.
To further enhance enforcement, a Monthly Road Safety Plan supplements the annual schedule. This one-page document provides a quick reference for law enforcement officers and community partners, ensuring that enforcement priorities remain clear and accessible. Published at the beginning of each month, it reinforces the commitment to proactive policing and road safety.
Data-Driven Enforcement and Accountability
A key component of the 2025 Road Safety Plan is the use of statistical reporting to assess and improve enforcement efforts. Monthly and quarterly summary reports will provide valuable insights into traffic enforcement results across different regions. This data-driven approach allows for effective communication with stakeholders and helps in shaping future traffic safety initiatives.
In addition to general enforcement, Traffic Services Special Enforcement Teams play a significant role in ensuring road safety. In 2024, these teams were active for nine months and were responsible for issuing 2,650 road safety charges, accounting for 12% of all road safety infractions. Their efforts focused on high-complaint areas, STEP locations, R.I.D.E. programs, and monthly road safety themes.
Accountability remains a cornerstone of the plan, with Neighbourhood Policing and Operational Support leaders overseeing the successful implementation of the enforcement strategies. Regular assessments will ensure that enforcement activities align with the plan’s objectives, maintaining a high standard of road safety.
With a structured enforcement strategy and data-driven decision-making, the 2025 Road Safety Plan aims to reduce traffic collisions and enhance road safety for all road users. By leveraging technology, community partnerships, and strategic enforcement, law enforcement agencies are taking a proactive approach to making Ontario’s roads safer.
