CAA members have voted on the worst roads in the province, and their voices have been heard. Bad roads cost millions to Ontario Drivers annually in damage, wear and tear and car accidents. CAA knows that every community has a notoriously bad stretch of road. This contest is the battle of the worst.
The campaign allowed members to vote on a range of issues from traffic congestion, poor road signs, potholes and traffic light timing. There were 3000 roads nominated in 182 municipalities this year. Drivers, pedestrians and cyclists all cast votes.
Fortunately, none of the winners were in Waterloo Region this year. Here is a list of the worst roads in CAA Western Region including Waterloo Region, Brant, Huron, Middlesex, Wellington County, Norfolk, Oxford and Perth.
- Speedvale Ave West, Guelph
- York Road, Guelph
- Adelaide Street North, London
- Pack Road, London
- Speedvale Ave East, Guelph
It seems that London and Guelph are the big winners this year.
In case you leave your home area here’s the provincial winner list:
1. Barton Street East, Hamilton
2. Eglinton Avenue West, Toronto
3. Barker Street, Prince Edward County
4. County Road 49, Prince Edward County
5. Carling Avenue, Ottawa
6. Eglinton Avenue East, Toronto
7. Lake Shore Boulevard East, Toronto
8. Finch Avenue West, Toronto
9. Bronson Avenue, Ottawa
10. Queen Street, Kingston
While the contest is tongue and cheek it serves to highlight serious issues for all road users. The CAA allows a unified voice for users to communicate their unhappiness with the road conditions in Ontario. Minimum road standards exist in Ontario. If you have suffered car damage or had an accident due to poor road conditions you may be entitled to compensation. Contact the municipality to report damage to your car and if you have a serious personal injury you should contact one of our experienced personal injury lawyers immediately.
